The MKS retreat format is unique. Kitemakers bring their sewing machines and supplies, and everyone sets up in a large conference room. All presentations are made in the same room so there's no need to carry machines around. There are projects for both the beginning and advanced kitemaker. The retreat is a wonderful place to see old friends, make new ones, and learn and play!
Special presenters for 2008 included:
Gary Engvall, current 2008 President of the American Kitefliers Association, presented the "Cellta" kite. Gary has made, flown, and sometimes competed with
fighter kites; made, flown, competed with, and judged single-line kites; made, flown, competed with, and judged dual-line kites; is a Big-Kite flyer,
(having a Peter Lynn Octopus, Manta Ray and Trilobite),
and has also repaired the occasional Traction kite. He likes kites!
Jon Burkhardt presented a Japanese Suruga kite with fabulous flying characteristics. Builders were able to use a small stencil to make Kabuki
inspired face components, or create there own design.
